Geesower Hügel in Brandenburg

The so-called FFH (Flora-Fauna-Habitat) area comprises the two nature reserves "Trockenrasen Geesow" in the north and "Geesower Hügel" in the south and is located in the district of Uckermark on the territory of the town of Gartz (Oder). The area was designated as a nature reserve in 1932 and is characterizsed, among other things, by a strongly shifting relief. The southern part of the protected area is a large-scale, species-rich dry area and is home to many thermophilic plant species with the continental and subcontinental distribution. It is dominated by dry calcareous grasslands and steppe grasslands as well as various succession stages. Parts of the protected area are grazed by Scottish Highland cattle.

Matthias Werner from the “Wildnisschule Teerofenbrücke” has been in charge of the research site since 2020.
