Hofberg in Thuringia

The Hofberg nature reserve is located as a foothill of a mountain range in the Rhön south-east of Roßdorf in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen. The area covers 43 hectares and is characterised by extensive, extensively used calcareous semi-arid vegetation (including gentian-schillergrass and trespen semi-arid grassland) with numerous endangered plant and animal species. Also worth mentioning are individual older solitary trees (natural monuments). The area is part of the large-scale nature conservation project "Thüringer Rhönhutungen".

Eberhard Köhler from the Wiesenköhler riding and hiking farm in Roßdorf has taken over the care of the area from spring 2021. For more information, see www.wiesenkoehler.de/index.html
