Porphyrlandschaft Gimritz in Saxony-Anhalt
The FFH (Flora-Fauna-Habitat) area "Porphyrkuppenlandschaft nordwestlich Halle" is located in the south of Saxony-Anhalt in the lower Saale valley. The area, which covers a total of 674 hectares, can be roughly divided into four sub-areas. Three of these, which are also the most important in terms of area, are located to the north or in the direction of flow to the right of the Saale. The Gimritz sub-area, which covers approximately 238 hectares, extends directly south of Mücheln. The importance of the FFH area lies, among other things, in the occurrence of the green-winged orchid (Orchis morio), early star-of-Bethlehem (Gagea bohemica) and Jurinea cyanoides. The main problem for the protected area is the decline in sheep farming and the resulting lack of use of the dry, open sites, which subsequently become overgrown and bushy.
